More About this Tour
Enjoy the unique experience of a 4x4 Safari Horse Tour plus Kayaking inside the Mustang Preserve!
This signature wild horse tour takes the Safari one step further by adding a special kayak tour through the pristine waters and marshes of our coastal reserves in wild horse country! This three hour tour will begin with an off-road experience navigating nearly 15 miles of beach, dunes, and rugged sand trails in one of our custom Open Air Safari Cruisers. Travel into the backcountry in search of Spanish Mustangs, migratory sand dunes, rare species of birds and other wildlife and then ultimately to our private Spanish Mustang Preserve.
Once in the preserve, we will launch our kayaks and paddle out on the water, navigating the serpentine of creeks and marshes, and touring the labyrinth of waterways adjacent to the Currituck Sound. Your group will have the opportunity to view and photograph the Corolla Wild Horses not only from the cruiser, but from your kayak, as they frequently can be found near the water’s edge. Wildlife abounds on this eco-adventure and your trip will provide plenty of opportunities to observe fish, reptiles, deer and other wildlife, not to mention the nearly 400 species of shorebirds native to the barrier islands.
This trip is designed to cater to both novice or beginner kayakers, as well as more experienced kayakers. This tour utilizes tandem (two person) recreational kayaks to ensure plenty of leg room and stability, accommodating persons of all ability levels and help reduce our footprint along the Currituck Sound. Our Certified Naturalist Tour Guides will instruct your group on basic kayaking, while providing you with a wealth of information about the ecology, history, folklore and culture unique to the barrier islands. This unique excursion blends off-road thrills with a kayak nature tour in the untouched reaches of the Currituck Sound, offering our guests the best of both worlds!
