       Gator was an incredible tour guide!! He is a local who knows the North Island like the back of his hand! He is knowledgeable, informative and entertaining! We saw ponies 2 different times in our trip! Can't say enough nice things!

     Awesome tour this morning with tour guide Gator. Seen 14 wild horses, heard interesting and fun stories.  I recommend booking with Gator. He loves the hunt for the horses, very sociable.

     Back Country Safari's Corolla Wild Horse Tour exceeded our expectations! Our family had a fantastic time exploring the beach dunes with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. We witnessed the beauty of wild horses in their natural habitat, and the experience was both family-friendly and reasonably priced. Highly recommend for a great time in a perfect location!

 Verified Christmas Gift!
For Christmas, my husband, sister-in-law and I visited Corolla to tour Corolla Christmas Village, the Whalehead Club and to take a Corolla wild horse tour. We enjoyed a very memorable trip and the horse tour was my favorite, even in cold weather! Tricia, our guide, was fun and knowledgeable and we saw plenty of horses, even in winter. We saw wild horses walking at the ocean's edge, in the dunes and wading in the canal. Tricia offered entertaining and educational information throughout the tour and I highly recommend. If you go in cold weather, dress warmly and bring a blanket and gloves!

We had a gret time on this tour.   Gator was an excellent tour guide.  We saw about 20 horses out of 103.   It's so beautiful to see them in the wild.  I highly recommend this tour.

We used Back Country Safari Tours in early November 2022, and really enjoyed it.  Our tour guide, Tom (Gator) as I recall, was humorous and informative.  He'd been on the Outerbanks all his life, and answered our questions.  We saw 20-some horses that day, and learned of history and local residents.  Back Country Safari Tours was one of only a couple or few wild horse tours open so late in the year.  Word of warning: Dress for very cold weather.  Although speed limits are only 15 mph, the wind along the shore was very cold.  I wish I'd had gloves to hold my camera.  Also, get in line early, and get one of the corner seats (front corners are best) to get the best pics.  We spent $50 for each of us, which is about the same as the other tours.

 Verified Worth it!!
This is a must-do when in Corolla.  We were not expecting to see a lot of horses in the "off-season" months but we saw about 20 wild horses.  Our tour guide, Gary, was very informative with telling stories of the horses and their different families/territories.  He also was very entertaining and told some silly jokes to liven up the ride.  If you go in the winter months, do bundle up.  Even though it was sunny and 58 degrees, the wind from the open air drive is chilly.  We are glad we did this event and would definitely reccommend Back Country Safari Tours.

 Verified Awesome 4x4 Tour
Our guide, Tricia, is a natural when it comes to creating an historical and light humored tour of the 4x4 wild horse area of Corolla and Corova. It’s a must do adventure even if you are not staying in the northern OBX. My wife and I saw at least a dozen wild horses and enjoyed the adventure through the dunes. Highly recommended! Took the family for wild horse tours. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us local history as well as information about the horses themselves. We saw 15+ horses throughout the area.
